Starting the Nursery

Registration

Before a child can start in the nursery a few requirements must be met. Registration forms, which are available from the nursery, must be completed and a small number of free introductory sessions are offered, these are:

  • A tour around the nursery with parent and child to see our environment, your child’s specified room and to meet our staffing team.

  • A one hour settling session with parent and child. This gives you the opportunity to discuss your child’s individual routines and requirements with their key worker and discuss with them how they plan, monitor and assess your child’s learning and development.

  • A two hour settling session with child. We encourage on your second session to leave your child for a period of time to ensure they are comfortable independently exploring their new rooms and create bonds with their individual keyworker.

The above sessions are to allow you the chance to see the nursery and learn what you need to make a fully informed decision on whether West Park Kindergarten is the right place for your child. We aim to be as flexible as possible with sessions but they are subject to availability, in the event that the sessions you desire are unavailable we will try our best to work out suitable alternatives for you and your child. A £25 registration fee is also required for a place in the nursery.

Key Workers

In order to best support your child's learning and development we have established a scheme in which every child has their own key worker who is responsible for carrying out regular observations, monitoring and recording the child's progress and development throughout their time at West Park Kindergarten. These can then be used to tailor the activities that they do in the nursery in order to best support the areas of development that they need the most support with and to do the activities that they enjoy the most. We also hold a parents evening every six months where you can come in and find out what your child has been doing, however you are also more than welcome to see the child’s key worker whenever you wish.
